BROOMFIELD, CO -- Ethanol technology company Range Fuels announced that it has secured $100 million in funding from a syndicate of venture capital and private equity firms.

Range Fuels has technology that can convert numerous biomass energy sources such as plant wood, switch grass and corn stover into fuel-grade ethanol.

Passport Capital led the round, which included Khosla Ventures, Pacific Capital Group and others.  The company said it would use the funding proceeds to complete construction on the first phase of its ethanol plant.
